MUSEQuBES: characterizing the circumgalactic medium of redshift ?3.3 Ly ? emitters

چکیده
We present the first characterization of circumgalactic medium Ly$\alpha$ emitters (LAEs), using a sample 96 $z\approx3.3$ LAEs detected with VLT/MUSE in fields centered on 8 bright background quasars. The have low luminosities ($\sim 10^{42}\,\text{erg}\,\text{s}^{-1}$) and star formation rates (SFRs) $\sim 1~\text{M}_\odot\,\text{yr}^{-1}$, which for main sequence galaxies corresponds to stellar masses only 10^{8.6}\,\text{M}_\odot$. median transverse distance between quasar sightlines is 165 proper kpc (pkpc). stacked high-resolution spectra measured significant excess HI CIV absorption near out 500 $\text{km}\,\text{s}^{-1}$ at least $\approx 250$ pkpc (corresponding 7$ virial radii). At $\lesssim 30~\text{km}\,\text{s}^{-1}$ from optical depths are enhanced by an order magnitude. significantly stronger around 1/3$ our that part `groups', we attribute large-scale structures they embedded. do not detect any strong dependence either or (over range 50-250$ pkpc), redshift, properties emission line (luminosity, full width half maximum, equivalent width). However, HI, but CIV, 100\,\text{km}\,\text{s}^{-1}$ LAE does increase SFR. This suggests surrounded more tend higher SFRs.

Characterizing the Low-redshift Intergalactic Medium towards Pks1302–102
We present a detailed analysis of the intergalactic metal-line absorption systems in the archival HST/STIS and FUSE ultraviolet spectra of the low-redshift quasar PKS1302–102 (zQSO = 0.2784). We supplement the archive data with CLOUDY ionization models and a survey of galaxies in the quasar field. There are 15 strong Lyα absorbers with column densities logNHI > 14. Of these, six are associated ...
متن کاملThe Impact of Galactic Feedback on the Circumgalactic Medium
Galactic feedback strongly affects the way galactic environments are enriched. We examine this connection by performing a suite of cosmological hydrodynamic simulations, exploring a range of parameters based on the galaxy formation model developed in Vogelsberger et al. (2013) (henceforth V13). We examine the effects of AGN feedback, wind mass loading, wind specific energy, and wind metal-loadi...
متن کاملThe Redshift Evolution of the Ly α Forest
We have analyzed the properties of low column density Lyα forest clouds (12.8 ≤ logNHI ≤ 16.0) toward 5 QSOs at different redshifts, using high signal-to-noise data from the HIRES spectrograph on the Keck I 10-m telescope. The results are used to study the evolution of these clouds in the interval 2.1 < z < 3.5. We find: 1) The differential density distribution of forest clouds, f(NHI), fits an...
متن کاملModelling high redshift Lyman α emitters
We present a new model for high redshift Lyman α emitters (LAEs) in the cosmological context which takes into account the resonant scattering of Lyα photons through expanding gas. The GALICS semi-analytic model provides us with the physical properties of a large sample of high redshift galaxies. We implement, in post-processing, a gas outflow model for each galaxy based on simple scaling argume...
متن کاملModels for High–Redshift Lyα Emitters
We present models for dusty high–redshift Lyα emitting galaxies by combining the Press–Schechter formalism with a treatment of inhomogeneous dust distribution inside galaxies. These models reproduce the surface density of emitters inferred from recent observations, and also agree with previous non–detections. Although a detailed determination of the individual model parameters is precluded by u...
